Do you enjoy Irish music, and want to learn how to play the Bodhran, an ancient Irish drum? In this workshop, instructor Corey Purcell will teach you the basic techniques and get everyone playing along regardless of your skill level.
The Bodhran is usually made of a wooden circular frame covered in goatskin, and it is played using a wooden stick called a tipper or cipin. For our workshop, you may bring your own Bodhran, or we will be distributing boxes for you to use as a substitute. For information on what type of Bodhran to purchase, please contact Corey at firstname.lastname@example.org.
In this fun and entertaining workshop, you will see a demonstration of the instrument, and learn the basics of the bodhran and tipper technique. An accompanist will add to a vibrant musical atmosphere.
Corey Purcell is an award winning Irish step-dancer and multi-instrumentalist specializing on button accordion, bouzouki, and bodhran. A Lehigh Valley native, Corey's musical talents have led him far from home on several international tours with his band 'Poor Man's Gambit', and he has also toured with the stage production 'Ireland - The Show', and the Irish super group Danu. In addition to performing, Corey offers lessons locally and through skype, and can be found at many local sessions.
